Request Money

Collecting payments just became easier with our new Request Money feature. This feature is designed to easily allow you to request money that you are owed with the ability to add invoice numbers, personalized messages and due dates with your payment request. The process is simple. When you send a request for money the recipient is notified instantly and has the option to accept the request. When the recipient accepts the request, the money will be automatically deposited into your account.

Online Banking:

  1. Log into online or mobile banking and navigate to Transfers in the left hand menu.
  2. Select Request Interac e-Transfer.
  3. Select the recipient you want to request funds from. You can choose a pre-existing contact or add a new recipient. You will need to check the box confirming you have received consent from the recipient for the request.
  4. Enter the specified amount you are requesting and select the account you would like the funds to be deposited into. You have the option to add a personalized message, an invoice number and/or a due date. This is useful for small business members.
  5. Once the recipient has fulfilled your request, funds will be deposited into your bank account and you will be notified.

Mobile App:

  1. Press the Interac e-Transfer tile on the home screen of the app.
  2. Login, if prompted
  3. Press Request from the menu at the top
  4. Press the From field to select the recipient you wish to request funds from. You can choose a pre-existing contact or add a new recipient.
  5. Enter the specified amount you are requesting and select the account you would like the funds to be deposited into. You have the option to add a personalized message, an invoice number and/or a due date. This is useful for small business members. You will need to check the box confirming you have received consent from the recipient for the request.
  6. Once the recipient has fulfilled your request, funds will be deposited automatically into your bank account and you will be notified. At this time an INTERAC e-Transfer service fee will be applied to your account, if applicable.

Who can I send a request for money?

You can request money from anyone with an email address or mobile number who has access to online banking or mobile banking at a Canadian financial institution that supports this feature. The list of participating financial institutions can be found here.

I sent an INTERAC e-Transfer request for money, but the recipient’s financial institution isn't listed as a supporting FI. What can they do?

If a financial institution doesn’t support the Request Money feature, the request recipient can decline the request with a message to the requestor. Alternatively, they can send a regular INTERAC e-Transfer transaction to the requestor, instead of fulfilling the request for money.

How long will it take for the recipient to receive a Request Money notification?

Request Money notifications are sent in near real-time.

Can I edit or cancel a money request?

Yes, you can edit or cancel a money request by logging into your online account and accessing the INTERAC e-Transfer Pending Transfers list. If the money request is listed with an "edit" or "cancel" link, then these actions can be taken.

Can I decline a request?

Yes, you can decline a request for money by selecting the Decline Request button within the notification. If you provide a reason for declining the request, this information will be conveyed to the requestor.

Can I block a requestor from requesting funds from me, or opt-out out of the Request Money feature?

Yes, you can opt-out of receiving requests from a particular requestor, or out of the service completely, by selecting the opt-out option from the request notification email your receive, or by visiting http://interac.ca/managepreferences.

Can invoices be attached while requesting money?

At this time, members cannot attach an invoice when requesting money through INTERAC e-Transfer. However, members can include an invoice number and invoice due date within the request for money transaction.

Does initiating a request require two signatures if the member’s business has dual signing requirements?

No, only one signer is required to initiate a request as it eventually results in a credit to the account.

Does fulfilling a request require two to sign if my business has dual signing requirements?

Yes, businesses who require two signers will need two approvers to review and submit the request fulfillment. This is because this activity results in an immediate debit to the account.
