Foundations and Conexus Credit Union Celebrate Financial Literacy Month

November is Financial Literacy Month! Foundations Learning & Skills Saskatchewan (Foundations) and Conexus Credit Union have partnered for another year and are encouraging parents and teachers to get involved in the conversation about how to strengthen the financial literacy skills of families.

Families across Saskatchewan are being invited to participate in the family piggy bank activity during Financial Literacy Month. This activity helps families start the important conversations about budgeting, saving, and investing, in a fun, interactive way. Conexus Credit Union has been a strong supporter of financial literacy in our province for many years. Foundations runs money management workshops that touch on budget, banking, credit and debt repayment, assets, and spending habits. “We know that when someone’s basic life needs are met, they can be financially well. Financial literacy is a critical life skill, and something we’re dedicated to educating and bringing awareness to in the community,” said Skylar Gerard, Manager Community Engagement Conexus Credit Union. “Part of this includes partnering with schools, non-profit organizations and other community groups to deliver financial presentations across the province to assist residents along their financial learning journey and empower them to feel more confident with their money.”

This year, Foundations is introducing a new family literacy program. Play Money is a 6-week family learning program for preschoolers ages 3-5 and their caregivers. Whether the family is a beginner at money management or more advanced this fun and creative program helps all members of the family. “Not only does the program touch on family money management, but there's the bonus of numeracy, and early learning skills development for the child through fun rhymes, storytelling, and activities. It’s the small conversations that create the foundation for lifelong habits,” says Sheryl Harrow-Yurach, Executive Director of Foundations.
