Grants and supports for first-time home buyers

First-Time Homebuyer’s Tax Credit

A Saskatchewan, non-refundable income tax credit that’s available to eligible individuals purchasing their first home.

The tax credit is up to $1,050 and is claimed on your income taxes

Applicants must not have owned a home in the last four years

You must occupy the home within one year of purchase

CRA Home Buyers' Plan

Allows you to withdraw up to $35,000 from your Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) to use as a down payment to buy or build your first home.

You must be a first-time homebuyer and occupy the home within one year of purchase.

You’ll need to fill out a T1036 Home Buyers’ Plan Request to withdraw funds from an RRSP form.

You must pay back the amount you withdraw to your RRSPs within 15 years.

Métis Nation – Saskatchewan First-Time Home Buyers Program

Provides financial assistance to eligible Métis citizens to help purchase their first home.

Up to $15,000 contribution toward the down payment.

Up to $2,500 available to help cover closing costs.

Applicants must not have owned a home within the last four years.

SAGEN New to Canada Program

Helps individuals who have recently immigrated or relocated to Canada to purchase a property.

Must have a valid work permit or permanent residency.

Must have a minimum of three months full-time employment in Canada.

Low down payment as little as 5%.

Grants and supports for renovations

SaskEnergy’s Residential Equipment Replacement Rebate

Rebates for owners who replace old equipment with energy efficient equipment.

 Rebates from $100 to $1,000.

Only available for residential homes in Saskatchewan.

 Eligible equipment includes specific furnaces, boilers, water heaters, and ventilators.

SaskPower Solar and Wind-Powered Pump Grant

Grants for the installation and costs of a solar or wind-powered water pump system

Covers 50% of costs (up to a maximum of $500). 

Payment is subject to proof of sale and installation from a Saskatchewan supplier.

Must be a Saskatchewan business.
