Foundations and Conexus Credit Union Celebrate Financial Literacy Month

November 1, 2023

November is Financial Literacy Month! Foundations Learning & Skills Saskatchewan and Conexus Credit Union are proud to highlight their continued partnership to celebrate this important month. This collaboration aims to empower individuals and communities across Saskatchewan with essential financial knowledge and resources, promoting financial well-being.

This year, families across Saskatchewan are invited to participate in Learn & Earn, a gameboard activity that helps families start the important conversations about budgeting, saving, and consumerism, in a fun, interactive way. “Not only does the boardgame touch on family money management, but there's the bonus of numeracy, and skills development for everyone of all ages. It’s the small conversations that create the foundation for lifelong learning habits,” says Sheryl Harrow-Yurach, Executive Director of Foundations.

Conexus Credit Union has been a strong supporter of financial literacy in our province for many years. Foundations runs money management workshops that touch on budgeting, banking, credit and debt repayment, assets, and spending habits. “We greatly value our partnership with Foundations Learning because at the core, it directly helps increase the financial literacy in communities across the province,” said Nicole Westerlund, Vice President, Brand at Conexus Credit Union. “That’s why we're excited for the launch of the Learn and Earn gameboard, and the potential positive financial impacts for Saskatchewan families. This month, Foundations has a full line up of free engaging workshops and programs for individuals and families.

  • Play Money - a 4-week family learning program for preschoolers ages 3-5 and their caregivers. Each week families will focus on early learning skills like fine and gross motor development, and caregivers will get some tips and exercises to make at-home money management simpler.

  • Virtual Money Management workshops - a series of workshops for everyday people to gain control of their money habits.

  • Registered Education Savings Plan virtual presentation - information for parents on what RESPs are, how to open one at the financial institution of their choice, and what government grants are available.

  • Learn & Earn family game and contest - can be printed from Foundations’ website, picked up at the Foundations office, here on the Conexus Credit Union website, or picked up at participating library branches.

Foundations will also be offering Financial Literacy Facilitator Training which is designed for the use of community-based organizations that work with people on lower incomes.
