Saskatchewanians reveal fall savings priorities: Conexus survey

[Regina, Saskatchewan – Nov. 18, 2025] -
Saskatchewanians have shared their top fall savings priorities in a new survey sponsored by Conexus Credit Union.

The survey asked respondents to share their personal top five savings priorities this fall season.

High-level takeaways:

  • 34 per cent of Saskatchewan respondents indicated that saving for travel and vacations was in their top five. 18 per cent put these getaways as their first savings priority

  • 29 per cent of respondents said that they are not saving or planning for any major purchases this fall. This response was higher among residents 55 and over (39 per cent) and households making less than $90,000 in annual income before taxes (34 per cent)

  • 24 per cent mentioned home improvements and renovations in their top five. This saving priority was especially popular among the 35 to 54 age demographic (29 per cent) and the 55 and over demographic (26 per cent). Only 13 per cent of 18- to 34-year-old respondents mentioned home improvements and renovations as a priority this fall

  • A savings priority consistent among age groups and genders was 15 per cent of respondents putting debt, bills and financial security in their top five

All mentions – top five

Saskatchewan residents were asked to share their top five savings priorities. Here’s a more in-depth look at the information respondents provided about what they are saving for:

  • Travel and vacations (34 per cent) – The leading category, with many dreaming of winter getaways, European trips and local adventures

  • Home improvements and renovations (24 per cent) – Especially popular among ages 35–54 (29 per cent) and 55 and over (26 per cent), compared to just 13 per cent of respondents in the 18–34 age demographic

  • Debt, bills and financial security (15 per cent) – Consistent among age groups and genders

  • Events, holidays and gifts (9 per cent) – Notably higher among females at 13 per cent as compared to males at 6 per cent, and the younger 18 to 24 age demographic at 14 per cent

  • Children, education and family activities (9 per cent) – Driven by younger groups, particularly 18–34 (15 per cent), while only 3 per cent of those 55 and over mentioned it

  • Home purchases (6 per cent) – Highest among younger adults (13 per cent) aged 18–34, reflecting early-stage life priorities

  • Not saving or planning for any major purchases this fall (29 per cent)

Top-of-mind priorities

The survey also reports which savings priority Saskatchewanians mentioned first as their “top-of-mind priority.” Travel and vacation came in first for the plurality of respondents who identified savings priorities, followed by renovations.

  • Travel and vacations (18 per cent) – Mentioned first most often, and slightly more common among men (20 per cent) than women (15 per cent)

  • Home improvements and renovations (12 per cent) – More top-of-mind in the 35–54 (15 per cent) and 55+ (13 per cent) demographics, compared to 7 per cent of younger adults aged 18 to 34

  • Vehicle purchase and maintenance (9 per cent) and debt, bills and financial security (5 per cent) round out the top first mentions, indicating practical financial focus alongside aspirational goals

Respondents also shared a variety of personal savings priorities in their responses, from winter escapes to tropical destinations, European adventures and home projects like new flooring or furniture, to child-focused spending such as sports and dance fees. Some fun savings priorities mentioned in the survey include Pokémon cards, Lego sets, a hockey jersey, a 3D scanner, a Cricut machine  and comic books.
