Conexus and Habitat for Humanity Saskatchewan Celebrate an Impactful Partnership
Yesterday, Habitat for Humanity Saskatchewan announced that they will be naming the park in Haultain Crossing in Regina, their largest build site in Saskatchewan and one of the biggest builds in Habitat Canada’s history, the “Conexus Credit Union Family Greenspace”. This honour recognizes the $1 million, four-year partnership that Conexus and Habitat for Humanity Saskatchewan established in 2020 and the tremendous impact it has had on the province.
Habitat for Humanity Saskatchewan’s vision for a world where everyone has a decent place to live is one Conexus shares. By the end of this partnership, 80 safe and affordable homes will be built for those in need across the province. So far, 57 mortgages have been signed by families in Regina, Moose Jaw, Yorkton, Estevan, Saskatoon, Prince Albert, Melfort and Yorkton and another 23 homes are projected to be built in 2023. Offering safe and affordable housing to those in need has helped create the necessary environment for children to do better in school, lessen stress as they transition into adulthood and leads to a financially stronger future for us all. For every $1 spent on a Habitat for Humanity build, approximately $4 is returned into the local economy through increased wages, income taxes, consumption tax, and opportunities for more education and better health.
”This contribution is not taken lightly, and we are so grateful that an organization such as Conexus Credit Union can offer us such a transformational gift to help people in need of housing,” said Denis Perrault, Habitat for Humanity Saskatchewan’s Chief Executive Officer.
“Shelter is a necessity, and we know that when someone’s basic human needs are met, they can become financially well. We are honoured to work with such an impactful organization that’s helping to improve the financial well-being of our community, and celebrate the families, sponsors, donors, suppliers, surrounding community members and volunteers who all play a critical role in making a meaningful difference for these families,” said Mark Borgares, Conexus Credit Union Board Chair.
