Conexus re-invests over $1 million back into Northern Saskatchewan communities in the past five years
(Tuesday, May 3, 2022, Date – Regina, SK) – Conexus Credit Union (Conexus) is a member-owned co-operative with an 85+ history of serving members and giving back to communities around the province. In 2021, Conexus re-invested over $200,000 back into Northern Saskatchewan communities through its Community Investment Program. In the past five years, Conexus has reinvested over $1 million into Northern Saskatchewan communities.
“Identifying new ways to spark connections and improving the financial well-being in our communities is our core purpose at Conexus. It’s part of our fabric and we are committed to investing in the communities we serve that help us deliver on our purpose,” said Nicole Westerlund, VP of Marketing and Member Engagement at Conexus. “We know that when someone’s basic human needs are met, they can become financially well. We are proud to partner with community and non-profit organizations that are making a meaningful difference in people's lives right here in our own backyard.“
Credit unions are not here to maximize earnings – we are here to support community and fuel the economy. Each year, Conexus reinvests up to 5% of its pre-tax profits back into the community. In 2021, it supported 59 initiatives through 56 organizations. Northern Saskatchewan partnerships included:
La Ronge Ice Wolves Financial Literacy Programming
Lake Country Co-operative Association Limited Feeding our Future
Inclusion Saskatchewan Employee Education Transition Program
Prince Albert Literacy Network
Prince Albert Raiders Financial Literacy Program
United Way Saskatoon
Dress for Success Saskatoon
Humboldt Community Soup Kitchen Inc.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Saskatoon Parents Together Program
OutSaskatoon
And more
“OUTSaskatoon is grateful for our new relationship with Conexus Credit Union. When we have an opportunity to partner with an organization that understands the complexities of our work at OUTSaskatoon, it is like a bright light that shines through. Our work at OUTSaskatoon is hard, but it is so valuable and needed for our 2SLGBTQ community. When Conexus donated at Christmastime and said we wanted to share a little holiday joy with you and your organization - we were beyond grateful! The impact of the relationship between OUTSaskatoon and Conexus Credit Union is creating conversations and building a better and more safe community for Queer, Trans, and Two Spirit people across the province,” said Krystal Nieckar, Executive Director at OUTSaskatoon.
In total, Conexus re-invested over $1.9 million across Saskatchewan in 2021, and over $9.5 million over the past five years. On top of financial funding, Conexus also provides free financial literacy programs, volunteers, and offers free banking services to its community partners, all making an impact towards Saskatchewan’s economic prosperity.
