Conexus harnesses innovation to grow the next generation of leaders
(Wednesday, May 18, 2022 – Regina, SK) – The week of May 16 – 20, 2022 is Canadian Innovation Week, a five-day celebration powered by The Rideau Hall Foundation that recognizes and supports ingenuity across all sectors. At Conexus, our purpose is to improve the financial well-being of our members and communities. We do this through innovation, thinking differently and leadership.
Building the next generation of leaders will help Conexus continue delivering its purpose well into the future and is why Conexus is dedicated to supporting young people in building leadership skills at an early age. It’s doing this through the following programs and initiatives:
Conexus Youth Leadership Awards – each year it awards 10 members graduate students with $1,500, recognizing members across the province who are trying to make their corner of the world a better place.
Camp Kindling – a series of camps held throughout July and August where youth ages 12-18 from across Saskatchewan come together to meet people, develop leadership skills, and more. Each year, Conexus sends five employee volunteers to assist with the camp as camp counsellors and sponsors 20 Conexus member youth to experience camp life.
Big Idea Camp – a two-day camp presented by Cultivator powered by Conexus and Strategy Lab. This camp is for grade 9-12 students in the Regina area who have a passion for tech and entrepreneurship. Campers experience the details of launching a tech startup working alongside founders, mentors, and camp supporters.
Financial Literacy in the Classroom – Together with players from Saskatchewan WHL and SJHL hockey team, we bring financial literacy to elementary classrooms across the province. Over 30 schools and 5000 kids have taken part in the program which includes the chance for students to win a $1,000 RESP (Registered Education Savings Plans). Check out this video from one of our partners – the Moose Jaw Warriors – and hear what they have to say about this partnership and impact they’re making through this partnership.
“Our youth are the next generation of innovative leaders in our workplaces and in our communities,” said Nicole Westerlund, VP of Member and Community Engagement at Conexus. “We know that everyone is capable of becoming a leader, and we’re here to help young people start building these skills at an early age. These immersive leadership experiences help participants gain confidence and empowers them to develop skills and capabilities to grow into leaders in the future.”
Conexus says financial literacy is a critical life skill that helps you create healthy financial habits and make responsible decisions with your money and is one of its focus areas in helping build the next generation of leaders. It says having these conversations early helps youth gain confidence with money at an early age and prepares them as they enter adulthood.
“Financial Literacy is one way we can contribute to our communities and create a lifelong impact on a critical life skill,” says Westerlund. “When you understand your finances you can plan better, save more, and manage money more proactively, in turn, helping you feel less stressed about money.”
