New funding opportunity for Non-Profits – the Community Services Recovery Fund

The Government of Canada has announced a new program called the Community Services Recovery Fund (CSRF). This new program will provide up to $400 million in funding to support non-profit organizations and Indigenous Governing Bodies as they adapt and modernize their operations for a post-COVID world.

If your organization has a strategic project or initiative that you’ve wanted to undertake but couldn’t because of the pandemic or other barriers, this new program might be for you!

Who is eligible?

Some basic criteria your non-profit organization must meet to be eligible for this program includes:

  • Be established in Canada with good legal standing,

  • Provide services to Canadian communities, and

  • Meet certain standards of governance and accountability

What is the funding?

There are two groups of funding each with their own range of financing amounts. The funding your non-profit can apply for depends on the size and complexity of your organization, and the projects or initiatives you intend to use the funding for. Below is a table showing the two groups.$10K - $200K

Local entities operating in a single province or territory.National entities whose operations span two or more provinces.

What are the approved uses of the funding?

The Government of Canada has approved three different focus areas centered around one-time projects where your non-profit can use the funds received through the Community Services Recovery Fund.

Investing in Systems and Processes: projects that invest in the systems and processes involved in creating the internal workings of your organization’s overall structure.

Investing in People: projects that focus on how your organization recruits, retains, engages, and supports your personnel, including staff, volunteers, and board of directors.

Investing in Program and Service Innovation and Redesign: projects primarily focused on program and service innovation and redesign using information gained during the COVID-19 pandemic.
